The American Music Awards (AMA) is an annual American music awards show, usually held in the fall, created by Dick Clark in 1973 for ABC after the network’s contract to broadcast the Grammy Awards was terminated. It is produced by MRC Live & Alternative.
Dick Clark Productions was added in the fall of 2021. From 1973 to 2005, winners were selected by members of the music industry in nominations, based on business performance, such as sales and distribution. Since 2006, public and fan voting, who can vote through the AMA website, has determined the winners.
Arrangement
Dick Clark created the AMAs in 1973 to win the Grammy Awards when the show moved that year to Nashville, Tennessee, leading CBS (which has hosted all Grammy shows since then) to restart the Grammy broadcasts after its first two in 1971 and 1972.
Aired on ABC
In 2014, the American network Telemundo acquired the production rights to the Spanish-language version of the American Music Awards and launched the Latin American Music Awards in 2015. From 1973 to 2005, winners were chosen by the music industry in a nomination based on commercial performance, such as sales and airplay. Since 2006, the winners have been decided by a vote of the public and fans, who can vote through the AMA’s website.
While nominations have continued to be based on marketing and advertising, including now including social media services and the king and watching videos. Before 2010, nominations were based only on marketing and advertising, and all jobs were nominated, even if they were older. The Grammys have nominations based on the votes of the Academy and only select one work from their rotating eligibility period. The award was presented by the New York Society Awards.
Hosts of the Show!
The original hosts of the first AMA television show were Helen Reddy, Roger Miller, and Smokey Robinson. Helen Reddy not only hosted the film but also became the first female artist to win an AMA for Pop/Rock Female Artist. For the first decade or so, the AMAs had many hosts, each representing a genre of music. For example, Glen Campbell will host a section of the community (Campbell, in fact, has hosted the AMAs more often than any other person or fan), while other artists will host support to show their kind. However, in recent years, there has been only one visitor.

From its inception in 1973 to 2002, the AMAs were held from mid-January to late January but were moved to November (usually the Sunday before Thanksgiving) beginning in 2003 to avoid competing with other shows. For the 2008 awards, Jimmy Kimmel hosted for the fourth year in a row. In 2009-2012, there was no guest for the first time in history. Between 2012 and 2014, as part of a marketing strategy for Samsung, the American Music Awards used the covers of Samsung Galaxy smartphones instead of envelopes to reveal the winners. The magnetic cover on each phone kept the picture of the winner of the book private until it was opened.
In August 2018, Dick Clark Productions announced a two-year partnership and content partnership with YouTube Music.

Summer without you can give you the opportunity to fall into many bad things, Bunny. The Puerto Rican singer and songwriter led the nominations for the 2022 American Music Awards with eight, including his first entry for the highest honor of the night, Artist of the Year.
Behind her are Beyonce and Taylor Swift, the most nominated female artists of the year, as well as Drake: all three received six nominations, including Artist of the Year. Adele, Harry Styles, and The Weekend complete the category with five nominations each.
Newcomers are well represented this year, with over 40 artists receiving their first nominations. Among them are Jack Harlow (four), Terms (four), Latto (three), Blackpink (one), Anitta (one), and Swedish House Mafia (one).
This year’s new categories are Favorite K-Pop Artist, Favorite Afrobeats Artist, Favorite Rock Song, and Favorite Rock Album. Considered the world’s biggest awards show, the AMAs will air from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 20, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. Fan voting is now open via voteamas.com and Twitter, except for Favorite K-Pop Artist, which will open on November 1.
