Read what Anna Kay Faris had to say below:
“One of my most difficult cinematic experiences was with Ivan Reitman. I mean, he was a screamer, the idea of trying to make fun of this reign of terror. It disappoints people every day… and my first day was me. I was scared the first day Ivan thought I was some diva who never got out of his car. I am in the middle of the street, all the lights.
Ivan leaves me alone. He said, “Annie, you can’t play here!” I was like, “Don’t do this. Don’t cry. No crying. I was angry, upset, humiliated, and defensive. Finally, I said, “Did anyone tell you what happened? At that time, he shut up and went behind the camera. Later, he also slapped me. It’s a wonderful time.”
Reitman is best known for directing the original Ghostbusters in its 1989 series, among other popular comedies such as Twins, Kindergarten, and Junior. Earlier this year, Reitman died at the age of 75. Now his son Jason Reitman is continuing his legacy as the director of 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife and the upcoming sequel.
Although Reitman has not been around to answer these recent allegations, Anna Kay Faris should agree since other cast members and crew members saw the inappropriate behavior he described.
Super Ex-Girlfriend producer Gavin Polone has previously spoken out, saying that although he has “never seen this incident or heard about this incident,” he believes what Faris is saying is true.
The incident Faris described on the set of My Super Ex-Girlfriend in 2006 is precisely what the #MeToo movement began five years ago to prevent. Given the inequality between the director and the actors on the set, this kind of behavior has not gone away, with Joss Whedon and Cary Fukunaga being the main accused recently for inappropriate behavior on the set.
A recent Hollywood study found that harassment has not decreased significantly since #MeToo began. The situation involving Reitman continues to develop, as what Faris said may have prompted the Super Ex-Girlfriend cast and crew to speak out about the director’s alleged actions.
